Almost there!

In another 3-4 months we can drop the "soon-to-be" label! The original due date was August 5th, but that's when we thought we were having just one. Twins often come a month early (they want to get a mother to at least 36 weeks - anything after that is just icing on the cake).

If that's the guide, then the twins could be born in just 3 months! I have to admit, it's both exciting and frightening at the same time. I don't feel nearly ready enough right now (neither does my savings account!). Of course, if I did feel ready - I think I'd be lying to myself.

Things not to say to your pregnant wife

When are you going to do the laundry? I can't find any white socks.

You're so lucky. I wish I could sleep in too.

Sorry, there's no more milk, honey. I'll pick some up tommorow.

Why are you wearing my shirt? Don't you have other clothes to wear?

Can you hurry it up, hon? We're already running late.

Oh, sorry, I didn't think you were going to eat that. Didn't you just eat an hour ago?

What do you mean that's heavy? You'd better start working out.

How can you be tired? You've been sitting down all day.

(Jason says - "In my defense, I haven't said all of those things... out loud.")

Ha ha.

6 Pieces

6 pieces.

That's all there is to a crib these days! 40 lbs. of packaging and styrofoam and 6 lousy pieces. Hard to believe isn't it? I've unpacked the first crib to get it ready.

I'm gearing-up for "Nursery Construction II - This time it's personal!". This weekend we're going all out to get the nursery in baby-ready condition. The cribs will be built, the chair-rail for the wall will be cut (maybe even put on the wall), and the child-safe outlets will be installed.

It will be quite an accomplishment - it's the only room in the house that will actually be unpacked and ready for use (we've only been here for, what, 4 months?!?). That's another post... for another blog. ;-)

I should stop typing before my wife reads this and hits me.

Is no news good news?

When it comes to twins... probably. Not much to report today. Pauline had a doctor's appointment to check up on the health of the babies. She had a "navigation issue" which is just like a wardrobe malfunction, only totally different. Let's just say she thought she had an appointment at the local clinic... but she was wrong. An hour later she made it to where she needed to be.

Bottom line - the kids are a-okay!

I am itching to get the cribs put together. At first, Pauline told me to wait so she could help out -- "because you only get to build cribs once." I think she meant to say "No, because I've seen you put together furniture before and I fear for the safety of our unborn children if you're allowed to build the cribs on your own." A man gets no respect around here.

Who knows, maybe we'll get it done this weekend. What's the rush - we've got 4 months!!

I felt the babies!

This was cool! Last night while we were watching TV, Pauline told me the babies were really kicking around. She put my hand on her belly and... I felt one kick! She's been able to feel them for weeks, but it's a first for me.

Yesterday we also registered at Babies R Us and Target. Things keep getting better and better!

Nursery under construction

The nursery (or the "Super Mueller Wonder Twin HQ") is under construction right now. We had to clean it out a couple weeks ago. Up until now, it was storage.

Pauline was too kind in the earlier post. Most of the painting was done by my little sister. I managed to mess up a few spots, but Amy was able to make it look perfect (as you can see).

The animals even tried to help out a little. Cocoa (our dog) guarded the room while Amy and I painted.
The cats, as you can see, were no help at all. Cleo is the cat in the middle picture, Sammy and Junior are the cats in the last image. Our fourth cat (yes, we have four... ) was MIA.

The box in the image is one of the cribs. The other one just arrived. We plan to pick it up and put them both together this weekend. The next pictures of the nursery should show a big change!

Utrasound

The ultrasound this week was a lot of fun! We got a chance to see the babies moving around. They seemed a little sleepy and didn't always cooperate. The woman doing the ultrasound had to shake Pauline's belly a little to get the twins to cooperate. They were facing away from the machine (towards Pauline's back) and didn't want to roll around so we could get a good look at their faces.

It's amazing watching them move around in the womb. At one point, we could see Scott kick Hannah's head! Go figure, they aren't even born yet and they're already fighting. I can see some fun road trips in our future.

The picture (you can see who doesn't have the art skills in our family) shows how the babies are positioned. They can flip around a little bit, but Hannah will always be on top and Scott will aways be on the bottom giving Pauline hip problems!

How is Mommy doing?

WEEK 21:

I feel so big already but still have a long way to go! The babies couldn't be healthier according to the ultrasound. I lost weight at first and haven't gained any back, but my doctor assures me that it's on its way! The body finds its equilibrium and does its thing, which is fine with me since the babies seem to be sucking my brain-power too.

We are scheduled for another ultrasound in May. We'll have our childbirth preperation classes in June and the babies may come early to mid-July. The goal for twins is after 36 weeks (full-term is 40 weeks).

We've started working on the nursery. I am decorating it with Noah's Arc. Jason had his first wall-painting experience (Amy helped a lot). We're going to put together the cribs this weekend (I'll mostly "supervise"). Now that we know its a boy and a girl we get to go register for all the fun things! (Babies R Us and Target).

SMWT - The early years

The Super Mueller Wonder Twins had their second photo session today (more on that in a second). Pauline and I are both very excited - one boy and one girl! The doctor tells us everything is fine; the babies are even a little big for their age (20 weeks, 6 days - which means about 16-20 more weeks before the birth!).

The next posts will be the ultrasound pictures. The boy (twin a in the old photos) will be named Scott William. The girl (twin b) will be named Hannah Marie. The first two pictures are of Scott, the last two are of Hannah. -J
